» Fuel level measurement in tanks, vessels and containers

Fuel level measurement can be acheived by using fuel level sensors which work on a hydrostatic pressure principle.  By installing a sensor at the base of the fuel tank or vessel or by submersing the sensor into the liquid by the top entry of teh tank or vessel the fuel sensors can associate the pressure created by the level of fuel above the device and this has a direct relationship to the level by a simple calculation.  This calculation can be seen by using the Impress conversion software here.

The things to consider when selecting a fuel level sensor is that the materials used are compatible with the type of fuel you have so for instance on the submersible devices you must make sure that the pressure diaphragm, O ring seals, housing material and Cable sheath are all suitable for complete submersion in the fuel.

Typically we would suggest using a PTFE or FEP cable sheath but for petrol or gasoline although a specially made Hytrel cable may be necessary.

If the installation is a screw type fitting in the base of the tank then just the housing, O ring seal and diaphragm are of concern.  Ceramic pressure sensor or stainless steel silicon pressure sensors are fine and a stainless steel housing are recomended.

Description:  The IMP-LR can be used to hydrostatically measure the level of liquid by installing the device at the base of a tank, it can then output the signal according to the level of liquid above the device.  We can also calibrate the device considering the specific gravity of the media to get an accurate output for level.

The 18.605 submersible hydrostatic level transmitter has been designed towards domestic and industrial fuel tanks where no modifications can be made to the tanks and the only access to the base of the liquid is through the top.  This sensor can be lowered into the media via the PVC, PUR or FEP sheathed cable and suspended in the liquid giving an output according to the level of liquid above it.  COst is usually a critical aspect of these applications so this device will cater for both the commercial and technical requirements of the application.

SRP-73 fuel level process display

SRP-73 Low cost digital process display

The SRP-73 low cost indicator can be used installed in a panel of control cabinet.  The device can provide a simple display of level in the tank or vessel and also fitted with a couple of relay contacts that can be used as an alarm signal when the fuel level is either high or low.

The SRP-N118 is a wall moutable digital indicator to display process values.  Full scaleable with analogue current, voltage or temperature sensor inputs.  The digital indicator powers the sensors with 24V dc supply and also has up to 2 relays and analogue re-transmission.  The bright 20mm display is highly visible with adjustable contrast.
